Everything I packed for Copenhagen
we've finally moved and film club time!
Hello hello,
What. a. month. I moved house (finally)! I joined a skipping club at my kids’ school! I just landed from Copenhagen! I am exhausted but also feeling very alive right now. Deliriousness has taken over and I am fully embracing the chaos. Will we have running water when we get home? Who knows?! It’s all very exciting!
Unusually, I wore every single thing I packed for Copenhagen, mostly because it was freezing and wet and necessary. The forecast was 85% rain the entire trip but thankfully it was dry with a few showers here and there. I wish I had packed more layers - my balaclava and Sittingsuits coat would’ve been ideal but they’re still awaiting our reunion in storage.
Day 1 - (mostly airport)

Copenhagen has been on my wishlist for a while as a family trip. It’s the perfect mix of something for us (culture, architecture, style) and something for the kids (Tivoli Gardens at halloween). We stayed in quite a basic apartment but the location was superb and on one of the most historic streets in the city (Magstræde - take note for good photos). We bought breakfast from 7-Eleven (but actually found Fotex City more affordable), ate delicious pizza at Mother (the staff brought dough for the kids to play with at the table - genius!), noodles at Mr Pho and burgers at Max (I’m not ashamed to admit we ate here twice).
I also forget each time I’m here just how much I am into separate duvets.
Day 2 (sightseeing)

I’ll be honest, the weather report had me in a bit of a spin. Do I only take my practical raincoat? Or do a mix of stylish waterproof options? I went with option 2 as I had baggage allowance. Thankfully, a mix of baseball cap, knitted scarf and a hooded trench was mostly enough - I felt very Scandinavian. Should’ve packed gloves though.
The Cos boiled wool trousers* are a revelation, just so warm, chic and EASY. They are dry clean only but I often find the really best trousers (and most of my Cos ones) are.
Not seen in these photos, the kids arguing in the front of Chris’s cargo bike.

We cycled around a bit, decided it was a tad boring and took the bikes back after a few hours. One of those things that sounded better in our heads (with kids) than it actually was. There are tons of child-friendly museums in Copenhagen but they all worked out as quite expensive for a family, so we went up the Round Tower instead (kids go free) which we all surprisingly enjoyed. Bonus that it was 80% slope as opposed to steps! There were a few exhibitions to stop by on the way up (including a gift shop which of course I managed to spend money in) and a decent(ish) view at the top.

Pizza dinner was very low-key so I relied on my Uniqlo x Marni rainmac:

Day 3 (Tivoli)

I’m pretty convinced this is the reason I am sneezing in bed because we were out ALL day, almost until the bitter end. It’s easy to do because Tivoli is gorgeous and heaps of fun, there were so many rides for all ages and decent eating options (even Joe & The Juice and Wagamama on the premises!). A friend had recommended the theme park for halloween and it didn’t disappoint: it felt like the set of Hocus Pocus - pumpkins popping out of boxes, spooky statues and witches waving as they whizzed past on rides. I booked this trip in stages so it didn’t feel like a huge outlay once there. What struck me, as opposed to somewhere like Chessington World of Adventures (a place I frequented as a child) was how well kept it was, and how enthusiastic the staff were, it was beautifully manicured and truly felt like its own world inside a major city.

If you don’t mind a cold city break in October (and I know a lot do!), Tivoli comes highly recommended from the four of us.
Day 4 (homebound)
Some links I loved….
On our obsession on celebrity couples
As a geriatric milennial, I approve of this article:
This month I…
…painted A LOT, so I also watched a lot of TV whilst doing it. King & Conqueror (enjoyed), Nine Perfect Strangers series 2 (awful but just what I needed), I Like Me (John Candy doc - I was bawling), The Guest (liked, got a bit silly at the end) and Unforgiveable (brilliant).
…visited Community Sauna Baths, £9.50 for an hour catch up with a pal- so much more enjoyable than buying another coffee I really don’t need. I’m currently planning my next trip!
…discovered that Yoto have released a KPop Demon Hunters* card, it’s already on my daughter’s Christmas wishlist.
The Frugality Film Club
This month’s film was Baby Boom (1987) starring Diane Keaton. I loved rewatching this movie, a total comfort film that still holds up so well. Keaton’s style especially (the cinched in suits!) as well as the 80s soundtrack - it began as every 80s NYC working movie does. I had never noticed that she breaks the fourth wall when her boss says ‘you know I never think of you as a woman’. As unrealistic as the plot is, there is more than enough realism in the script (with whimsy, too!) and I will forever adore Nancy Meyer’s cottage core aesthetic. Did anyone notice Harold Ramis as her partner (Igor from Ghostbusters was my childhood crush!), and a young Chris Noth as Yuppy husband in the local country store? Rewatching it at age 42, I really, really connected with this film!
8/10 (marked down due to a few outdated views- particularly the babysitter scene)
Next month’s film club film (it’s available for 4 months, I triple checked!) is Aisha (BBC iPlayer). We can discuss on next month’s newsletter Wednesday 26th November.

I'm a big fan of two single duvets! You can still cuddle but once you are asleep you are separate - the only way to actually get a good night's sleep!
Copenhagen is so gorgeous. I managed to visit when Tivoli was closed 🙈 but fully intend to make it one day with my daughter!
I hadn’t seen Baby Boom before but thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with Keaton’s genius. The wonderful @storyhasit ended up stumbling across and interviewing the twins that played the baby! https://storyhasit.substack.com/p/lately-44-the-diane-keaton-edition?utm_source=post-banner&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=posts-open-in-app&triedRedirect=true
Yes, spotted Harold Ramis! Who also popped up in the John Candy doc 👏🏻👏🏻 That broke me into teeny tiny pieces too❤️
Definitely up for Aisha—I spy Josh O’Connor!
