The humble t shirt

Just when Leandra Medine Cohen declares it’s all about the cropped micro tee (no bra, obvs), I am just about there with the oversized tee (no bra, either, I can only assume for different reasons).

This post comes as a result of a slight admin error. My brainfog is so thick that I was planning on filming this maxi skirt 5 ways, this being day 1, when I realised I have, in fact, already shot and published this exact content previously. Couldn’t remember a thing about it. Call it perimenopause, or perhaps I’ve been doing this job so long there is no content I haven’t reproduced at least twice. Not one to waste a concept, I have chosen to recreate looks with this tee instead!

1 maxi skirt, 5 days

I do a series on Instagram wearing one item of clothing for 5 days in a row, mostly to show its versatility but also to encourage us (mainly me) to wash our clothes less and wear them more. It’s a popular series and one I’m proud of, especially in a world of unboxings and hauls. I was sitting planning my next one and thought ‘why don’t I share it on Sub…

I bought this t shirt last summer from an independent brand (Mere Soeur), it’s hardly ground-breaking but I hope it speaks to your wardrobes as a great building block (as opposed to an after thought, a category I find most of my tees tend to fall into). Most of my plain t shirts are simply to layer under cardigans but this loose silhouette forces me to style it differently.

Said tee in Barcelona, last summer (I loved the simplicity of this outfit)

To recap: the purpose of my 5 ways to wear series is primarily to prove I have more than enough clothes and encourage me tothink of different ways to wear a staple in my wardrobe. It’s also a lesson in not washing my clothes so often - the baggy silhouette has helped but generally, we do not need to wash our clothes as often as we do. A good airing and an occasional spritz are often enough between wears.

Day 1

Tee: Mere Soeur (1 year old)

Skirt: M&S (3 years old)

Shoes: Next* (AD/Part of a previous paid partnership)

Bag: Sezane* (3 years old but still stocked)

I declined to jump on the sheer mesh shoe trend (too sweaty for me) but these Next ones are more breathable and suprisingly comfortable. A mum complimented my outfit at the school gates in this (which says a lot about my usual school drop off attire).

Day 2

Henry Moore Studio in Much Hadham

Cardigan: Boden (18 months old)

Shorts: Aligne (2 years old) - archive post below for more styling ideas

Bag: TK Maxx (2 years old)

The Henry Moore Studio in Essex was such a surprising day out, so much m ore than a sculpture garden (gallery post with kids coming up shortly!).

Day 3

Sunglasses: Specsavers (AD/I work with them)

Culottes: Cos (3 years old)

Sandals: Marni via Vinted (1 year old)

Bag: Damson Madder (1 year old)

Still not tiring of these culottes.

Day 4

I only own two belts and this is one of the handful of times I’ve reached for one. I just forget they exist when my trousers fit - but this adds a nice pause to this look.

Trousers: Cos (4 years old)

Belt: Asos (15 years old)

Sandals: TK Maxx (3 years old)

Day 5

This was to our local Bank Holiday funfair, it was cold and damp and I spotted at least four other women in this Damson Madder anorak. Possibly because it is one of the few practical rain jackets that still feels stylish so everyone pounced on it. It now comes in a beige gingham (which I think will have the same issue). Still adore it.
